Captain Dave Nichols, USCG (ret.) is Director, Business Development for Advanced Solutions and is responsible for the development and delivery of cyber security services for maritime ports and terminals worldwide.

Captain Nichols joined ABS in June of 2018 after a 26 year Coast Guard career that culminated in his position as Chief of the Outer Continental Shelf Division overseeing all oil and gas drilling and production activities in the Gulf of Mexico.

Prior to that, he served in a number of marine safety positions including Chief of Port Operations, Commercial Vessel Inspector, and Staff Judge Advocate. Most notably, Captain Nichols served as the Chief of Staff and Principal Legal Advisor to the Federal On Scene Coordinator during the Deepwater Horizon fire, explosion, and pollution response. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Gulf of Mexico Area Maritime Security Committee.

Captain Nichols received his bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated cum laude from Tulane Law School in 2000 with an Admiralty Certificate. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the U. S. Supreme Court Bar.
